CRIANZA DE CYDIA POMONELLA PARA OBTENER LARVAS NEONATAS Y SOBREVIVENCIA EN MANZANAS TRATADAS CON BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS REARING OF CYDIA POMONELLA TO OBTAIN FIRST STAGE LARVAE AND SURVIVAL ON APPLES TREATED WITH BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS Tomislav Curkovic S., Gerardo Barría P. y Roberto González R.
SUMMARY Pupae and last stage larvae of Cydia pomonella were collected with cardboard traps from apple orchards in the Metropolitan Region of Chile, from December 1993 through January 1994. Adults were born, mated and oviposited on Flanders rearing cages. The neonate larvae were then collected and set on apples sprayed previously in the orchard with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) or Azynphos-methyl. Four artificial infestations were done in the laboratory on days 1, 2, 4 and 7 after application. The percentage of undamaged fruits on Bt (10-20%) was slightly larger than the control (0-20%), and much lesser than that with Azynphos-methyl (62,5-100%). Larvae on the control and Bt treatments vomited the first bites of epidermal tissue when entering the fruit. Thus, Bt action by ingestion was is noticeably reduced in this pest. Key Words: Cydia pomonella, Bacillus thuringiensis, Azynphos-methyl. |
