INCIDENCIA DE LA POLINIZACIÓN ANEMÓFILA Y POLINIZACIÓN MANUAL SUPLEMENTARIA SOBRE EL TAMAÑO DEL FRUTO DE KIWI EFFECT OF WIND AND SUPPLEMENTARY HAND POLLINATION ON KIWIFRUIT SIZE Gabino Reginato, Rodrigo Martin y José Luis Camus..
SUMMARY At Quinta of Tilcoco, VI Region, different sources of pollen were evaluated as susceptible material for supplementary hand-pollination of kiwifruit. The evaluation was done through: a) the effect of application of imported pollen (comercially available) and a mixture of collected pollen, both applied with and without talcum, b) pollen quantity and in vitro germination at different maturation periods (3; 6 and 26 hours after obtaining anters) and, c) the release time of pollen and the effect of the wind pollination on fruit size. The results show that with hand-pollination it is possible to increase fruit size up to 18%. The addition of talcum as a carrier produces a detrimental effect on pollination. Both "Matua" and "Tomuri" pollen collected from flowers in "popcorn" stage or first day-flowers maintain their germination after 26 hours of maturation at room temperature, with values close to 35%. On the other hand, the imported pollen had a tendency to decrease its germination until 15% after 26 hours. Imported pollen is more abundant than collected pollen after 3 hours of maturation, equalling the other sources at 6 and 26 hours. The anthers obtained from flowers on the first day of anthesis release a greater quantity of viable pollen than the anthers from "popcorn" stage. The pollen suspended in the air was collected in greater quantity between 1 p.m and 5 p.m. Wind pollination was responsible for 46% of fruit weight and 23% of the seeds. Key words: Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa); artificial pollination; supplementary pollination; wind pollination;(Apis melifera); pollen germination. |
