USO DE LA SOLARIZACIÓN EN EL CONTROL DE Rhizoctonia solani Kühn EN EL VALLE DE AZAPA, I REGIÓN DE CHILE. USE OF SOIL SOLARIZATION IN THE CONTROL OF Rhizoctonia solani Kühn IN THE AZAPA VALLEY, CHILE.
SUMMARY Soil solarization was made in monocultivated soils with tomatoes, located in the Azapa Valley. The solarization was made with a transparent polyethylene of a 40 m m thickness for 31 days, during January-February, 1995. The degree of control of the artificial inoculum of Rhizoctonia solani located at 10, 20, 30 and 40 cm depth was investigated. Solarization was compared with an uncovered soil and another fumigated with Metabromo 980 (44.42 g/m2 methyl bromide). The results were expressed as a percentage of inoculum viability of R. solani . Temperatures at different depths were registered. After 31 days of solarization the inoculum viability was 20.8; 58.8; 90.4 and 100.0 % while with Metabromo 980 was 6.7; 6.7; 18.6 and 66.6% at 10, 20, 30 and 40 cm depth, respectively. The highest temperatures obtained with solarization were 42.9; 40.9; 38.7 and 36.7 at 10, 20, 30 and 40 cm, exceeding the control in 9.2; 7.8; 8.6 and 7.7ºC in each case. The results allow to conclude that solarization can give an adecuate control of R. solani at the first 10 cm of soil depth in the Azapa Valley. Key words: soil solarization, soil fumigation; physical control; thermical control; Lycopersicum esculentum. |
