ABSCISION FOLIAR Y PRODUCTIVIDAD DEL CAFETO (Coffea arabica L.) EN DIFERENTES CONDICIONES DE ILUMINACION. EFECTO DE LA HU-MEDAD DEL SUELO, LA FENOLOGÍA Y LA CONCENTRACIÓN DE NU-TRIENTES FOLIARES LEAVES ABSCISSION AND YIELD OF COFEE TREE(Coffea arabica L.) ON DIFFERENT LIGHT ENVIRONMENT. EFFETCS OF SOIL MOISTURE, PHENOLOGY AND LEAF NUTRIENT CON-CENTRATIONS.
SUMMARY The influence of solar radiation on leaves abscission and yield as well as the effects of soil moisture, nu-trient concentration in leaves and phenology of 27 months old coffee trees (Coffea arabica L.), planted at three irradiance levels (Open sunlight: 16 MJ·m-2 ·day-1 ,Regulated Shade 9 MJ·m-2 ·day-1 and Non Regu-lated Shade: 6 MJ·m-2 ·day-1 ) was studied. Significant differences of irradiance levels on yield and some of its components, were observed being the coffee trees growing in open sunlight which produced the lower yield. The effect of soil moisture was shown and it is concluded that the soil moisture is not a limi-ting factor in this conditions because of the higher moisture percent recorded in open sunlight treatment in comparison with shade treatment, but it can be a determinant factor if the nutritional levels in leaves are not adequate enough. The effect of N, P and K concentration, in combination with phenology is demonstrated and it was observed significant decreasing of N, P and K when the plants are in the phase of fruit growing and ripening. On the other hand, it was observed a significant relationship between yield and leaves abs-cission in the open sunlight treatment, while in the shade treatment both variables were not correlated. Key words: Coffea arabica L., leaves abscission, yield, solar radiation. |
