VERIFICACION
DE SUSCEPTIBILIDAD DE LARVAS DE LA POLILLA DE LA PAPA, Phthorimaea
operculella (Zeller), A CUATRO INSECTICIDAS
SUMMARY The susceptibility in the laboratory of potato tuberworm larvae, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) to deltamethrin, methamidophos, cyfluthrin and chlorhydrate of cartap from colonies originated from infested potatoes collected in La Serena, Colina and locations in the Metropolitan Region (Talagante, Malloco and Calera de Tango) was evaluated, spraying larvae from each population with increasing concentrations from the smallest commercial dosage, applied from a Potter tower, with four replicates (n = 20 larvae). Mortality was evaluated 24 hours after application; the LC50 and LC90 were calculated for each population. The evaluated populations showed no resistance to deltamethrin, which demonstrates an efficient control with this insecticide at the recommended dosages. Neither was found resistance for methamidophos, although the population of La Serena required high dosages to present 90% mortality. This indicates the presence of individuals less susceptible to this insecticide, which would be due to the continued control with this insecticide, with the ensuing greater selection pressure. To avoid the development of resistance in this region, methamidophos must be used in alternance with insecticides belonging to different chemical groups. No resistance was found also to cyfluthrin. However, the LC90 reveal that the population of La Serena is more difficult to control than the other populations. Chlorhydrate of cartap presented an efficient control, although the LC90 of the populations studied revealed differences in susceptibility. This insecticide, which has been used recently for only a few potato growers, represents a good control alternative for the potato tuberworm. Key words: cartap, cyfluthrin, deltamethrin, insecticide resistance, metamidophos, Phthorimaea opercu-lella, potato tuberworm.
